Volleyball Techniques for Winning Warm

4510361164 8ecd47252a m Volleyball techniques for winning warm

Whenever I get a chance I pass on one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten from one of my coach’s and this volleyball tip has to do with what happens BEFORE the volleyball game even starts. The advice is the following… when I’m in my hitting line…watch the opposing volleyball team players hitting warmup

By this time you’ve had your team prep talk right? Your coach has told you pretty much who does what on the other team. Well now that its Before the game now that you have the time. Watch!

a. Watch and Identify who you might have to block in front of you.

b. Watch How they hit the ball.

c. Does she hit on the way down?

d. Is her armswing slow?

e. Does she have a fast or slow wrist snap in other words does her hit go down or go long in the court.

f. Does she always face cross court when she wants to hit cross court or does she hit over

her shoulder to disguise her shot.

Does she always call for a high ball set or does she hit a shoot set as well? Look for clues in warm up as to what your opposing hitters do.. then Be Already thinking about how you need to block that person or how late you need to wait in your block squat before you jump against a particular hitter.

Do the same in the serving warm up. As you are shagging your ball – keep an eye on WHERE members of the opposing starting team tend to always serve. If the left side hitter has served most of her warm up serves cross court – you can bet that she isnt going to pull too many surprises in

the game and do something completely different than what you saw her do in warm up.

Players love to warm up the skill that they perform the best in warm ups. If you are alert you can anticipate alot of what a player is going to do -during the game.

If she serves 5 cross court and 1 down the line – what are you going to tell your team to look out for- that cross court serve first-right?

The last few minutes of the warm up and before you line up to start the game YOU can be talking to your teammates and share with them what your observations are. “Hey Gal Sal just hit the last 5 balls cross court whoever is blocking her be ready for that…” Why is this important?

1. This shows the coach that you are thinking. …and sharing -which makes their job easier. And let’s face it brownie points are Always good in that area.

2. You are also less likely to be taken by surprise during the game by what happens on the court because you’ve started Looking and Analyzing (aka warming up your brain) in warmups BEFORE the game even started.

So I’m not keeping my head down, grooving to the pre-game warm up music and concentrating on “just…doing my thang by just shagging and running back to hit” in warmups.

I’m aware, alert and helping my team by seeing, sharing and communicating what the opposing

members of the other team are doing. This volleyball skill is preparing me mentally to

Anticipate what is going to happen.

That’s how you Win in Warmups!

When most people think of volleyball, they think of guys and gals on the beach in their bathing suits, drinking beers, laughing and having a good time. Well I’m here to tell you that volleyball is much more than this. Volleyball is quite the competitive sport. So like any other, you need to train properly if you plan to excel in your performance out on the court.

So the bottom line, you need legs. Volleyball is a game of ups, for the most part, and if you’re looking to compete on some of the most elite levels, you need to be in excellent shape. With a net at 7’10″ for men, you surely need to soar much higher if you plan to put the ball down hard. For this, you need extremely strong calves and hamstrings. Also footwork is key. The quicker your feet are during your attacks, the more effective you will be at the net, and likewise for blocking.

If you wish to excel in the game of volleyball as a competitive player, like anything you do, you need to train hard all the time. With extensive strength training, specifically on your lower body, you are only bettering yourself as a player, and keeping up with the competition.

If you are going to get out there on the sand with the big boys, you should not only have the skills, but you should know what you’re talking about.

Now there are so many technical terms that can get you bogged down with the game of volleyball. Most of the people that play are not even aware of these terms. The ones they do know, you won’t find in the dictionary of volleyball. But you just might find them peppered between people yelling, “YOUR MAMMA!” Here are a few of them:

Bang: Hammering the ball as hard as you can with your fist, and connecting with the other side.

Butter: A set performed without a fault. “It’s like budda”

Dime or Nail: A perfect pass. Though this is rare.

Tattoo: It’s exactly what you think it is – when an opposing player gets beamed with the ball – usually from a ‘bang’

Heat: Speed of the ball, but you probably guessed this one too.

Stuff: A block by the opposing time, which lobs the ball immediately into the sand.

Sprinkler: When a poor player sets up shots in an erratic way

Shag: Picking up and collecting scattered volleyballs – which none of us want to do after a hard game.

Grab a cold one: What all of us WANT to do after a hard game.

Hey everyone! Before we start anything, I want to let you know that volleyball is an awesome sport. It is fun, competitive, and has a lot of good sportsmanship needed. Believe me, I play volleyball and you can get ticked VERY easily. But you’ve got to put that anger and frustration away and play your hardest. You must have a lot of patients. But best of all, HAVE FUN!

Now, in case you don’t know what the REAL definition of volleyball is. Here it is.

Volleyball-noun 1. a game for two teams in which the object is to keep a large ball in motion, from side to side over a high net, by striking it with the hands before it touches the ground.

2. the ball used in this game.

Here is the definition of sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship-noun 1. the character, practice, or skill of a sportsman.

2. sportsmanlike conduct, as fairness, courtesy, being a cheerful loser, etc.

Here is the last definition. It is considerate.

Considerate-adjective 1. showing kindly awareness or regard for another’s feelings, circumstances, etc.: a very considerate critic.

2. carefully considered; deliberate.

3. marked by consideration or reflection; deliberate; prudent.

Now, thats about all the words that you need to ”know” and how to act and think about during a tight game.

Here are some very brief hits and stuff to make a successful game worth wild.

1.BUMP- how to do this:

Put your arms together and hold your hands. Put them out in front of you. And now, make your hands smooth as a table top. Also make note that your hands should be crossed. DO NOT JUMP!….Lift your shoulders, not your feet.

2.SET- how to do this:

Cup your hands on top of your forehead. Now, have yourself laying on the floor and have a friend throw a volleyball at your forehead. Make sure that your hands are shaped like a volleyball. Good luck setting!

3.SPIKE- how to do this:

First, throw a volleyball up in the air, and then when it gets to its peak, you move your right foot, than your left, and than your right again and than jump and snap your wrist. Do this over and over again until perfect. Good luck!

That is the basics of volleyball. HAVE FUN!

The Dig: Tips for Keeping the Volleyball in Play

2864069231 e8c350d80f m The dig: Tips for keeping the volleyball in play

There are a lot of terms for what can happen during a friendly game of volleyball, but out of all of them a ‘dig’ is probably the most severe. What is a dig, you may ask? A dig is the ultimate save. The most supreme sacrifice that you can make in the game of volleyball. The move that leaves only one thing between a downward careening ball and the ground: your body.

When your opponent has sufficiently spike a ball over the net, onto your side of the court, you have less than a second to make a decision. When that white pill hits the ground, the opposing team will score a point and you will be one step closer to defeat. If you truly value the life of the game, you will do what every self-respecting volleyball player must do at one time or another in their life – you will dive for the ball. That’s why they call it a dig. You are getting as close to the ground as possible, in what ever way you can, in order to stop the momentum of the ball and keep it in play.

You may be successful, pop the ball back up and be able to keep your team in the running through your sacrifice. You may also get a face full of sand, or an entire body of bruises, depending on where you are playing. The choice is always up to you.
